Is it because people always down Mondays that you always brace yourself for the worst? I mean… if people weren’t so hard on Mondays… maybe they wouldn’t seem so bad. I know that they come after the weekend… after rest and family time… after doing whatever you want for two days… but still… can be positively reframe (I swiped that phrase from my husband) Mondays for a change? Maybe declare them the day of new beginnings… the fresh start day!
Last night, we had one child coughing with a sore throat when she went to bed. This morning, we woke up with two. Well… three if you include me. I woke up with a terrible headache and sore throat. Thankfully my rock star husband let me sleep in.
I woke up and remembered that there was a mountain of laundry waiting for me and that I had not done any lesson plans for homeschool this week. So… I pulled myself out of bed and got to work.
It really hasn’t been a bad Monday… it just kind of caught me off guard. I just wasn’t ready for a new week.
I pulled the lesson plans together, made the copies and printed the papers I needed for the week. I got the laundry started. Ate breakfast. Took the blue sharpie away from the two year old (who had just stuck it up her nose). Took the marble out of said two year old’s mouth.
Thus begins our week. Mondays… gotta love them!
I am incredibly blessed to have a very talented husband. If he wants to make something, he just does it. He made the kids’ swingset, our picnic table… He built the fence in the backyard… he’s done SO much around our house. I’m always showing him stuff on Pinterest that I want him to make. I made a board just for things I want him to make.
Here are a few of the things:
Chalkboard Coffee Table- Great for Game Night
Fun Water Toy
Fun stuff huh? What about you… do you pin? Feel free to follow me… mama_monkey
I wish I could tell you that I am an eco- friendly, go green kind of girl… I wish I could say that I recycled every recycle-able item in my home and worked hard to reduce waste and had a compost pile in the backyard and grew my own vegetables and fed my children only organic foods that came from eco-friendly farms… I would love to be that kind of girl… but I am not.
I would love to have the mental energy to devote to eco friendliness. I do recycle (when I can). I do not purposely waste paper. I try to remember to take my re-usable grocery bags to the store.
I say all this to preface this post because I want you to know that I’ve started making my own all- purpose cleaner… not because I am going green… but because we have no green… and this cleaner is super inexpensive to make.
Here’s the recipe I’ve been using:
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup baking soda
1/2 gallon of water
I mix it up and put it in a spray bottle. It’s great for bathroom and kitchen cleaning.
Google “cleaning with baking soda” for more great ideas.
When I can be frugal and eco friendly at the same time, I am happy to do it.
My amazing man of a husband got me this new toy for Valentines Day. We are not big celebrators of Valentines Day … so it was complete surprise to me when I opened this up! He sacrificed some gift card money that he received … instead of spending it on himself, he chose to bless me. People probably wonder about the gifts he gives me. I know one year, he gave me a gift card to the Container Store for Mother’s Day… the cashier thought he was crazy… but he adamantly explained to her that I would love it… that I really love organizing and office supplies. You may remember my confession about my love of office supplies.
So.. before you start thinking, “how unromantic… he got her cleaning supplies!” Just know that I am super excited about this gift. When my house is clean, I am a better person.
I am a sucker for infomercials! A few years ago, my husband got me a Magic Bullet… which I use on a regular basis. He caught me drooling over the portable Steam Shark (pictured) one day. I knew that we could never justify such a purchase on our seminary budget… so I just put the thoughts of owning a portable shark aside.
But now… I am the proud owner of the portable Steam Shark!!! It comes with super fun and odd looking accessories. I can sanitize and deodorize with this little puppy. I can steam garments, kill dust mites, wipe out bacteria, scrub my kitchen, clean my shower, freshen my cushions and more… all without chemicals! I would love be the kind of gal that is passionate about going green and helping the earth… but I am not. When I can be eco- friendly and save money at the same time… I am all about it. The steam shark uses the power of steam… no chemicals or cleaners required. I am excited about the fact that this will be saving us the pain and money of having to buy lots of cleaners.
I already own the steam shark mop (Christmas present a couple of years ago from my mom).. and I am a big fan. My floors are so clean… which is a good thing with baby girl always hanging around and scavenging for fallen food. I haven’t bought floor cleaners, swiffer pads or anything else since I got the shark.
PS… The Shark company has no idea who I am. I am just writing this because I am really excited about this gift. It is so easy to use and comes with a tote bag to store it and all it’s accessories. It gets two thumbs up from this Mama Monkey!
